Today I'm grateful
for home remedies.

As a kid, I’d wake up completely amazed after a visit from the tooth fairy. As an adult I wake up equally amazed after a visit from the pimple fairy. I thought we took a vote and unanimously decided you couldn’t get pimples after you turned 20. Since my skin is super sensitive -- and I’m cheap, I looked on-line for home remedy. Here’s the treatment I found.

“Make a paste of turmeric powder and lemon juice. Apply on entire face to remove blemishes and prevent new ones. Wash off after 20-30 minutes with lukewarm water.”

Sounds easy enough until you figure out that turmeric is the same stuff they use to stain the skin for mehndi. My face was bright orange. I looked like a bowl of Easy Mac. In my desperate search to de-oompa loompa myself I sat in front of the computer, one hand on the keyboard and the other rubbing my face raw with a stained washcloth, and found an interesting study. A survey of over 3,500 acne sufferers proved that state of mind effects the state of your skin. Acne is more likely to develop when you are stressed out rather than relaxed and happy. Stress stimulates the nerves in the face that produce oil and the gunk that causes breakouts.

This got me thinking, I’ve never seen a drunk with acne, sure gin blossoms, but that can easily be covered up with Bare Minerals. I’m grateful for home remedies because my cure for acne is simple. Drink more cocktails because it’s impossible to stress out during a blackout. That means I don’t need face full of Stri-dex as long as I keep my belly-full Smirnoff.

Today I’m grateful for home remedies.

Forget about rainbows and unicorns, I’m grateful for double martinis, single men and pretty much anything covered in chocolate or cheese. This gratitude journal is anonymous because the stuff that tends to fall out of my head and land on the page makes HR departments cringe -- and guys lose my number.
