As always, I’m running late. I can either write this blog about life-changing cupcakes, or shave my legs before I go out…Okay, black tights it is.
I’m the self-proclaimed Christopher Columbus of cupcakes because I’ve discovered a new world. All ashore that’s going ashore to the land of savory cupcakes.
WARNING: It’s a good idea to cover your keyboard before you read the following list. Excessive drool has been known short out keyboards and there’s nothing the Geek Squad can do other than look at you like you’re a pathetic loser. And coming from those losers, that’s quite a smackdown.
At More Cupcakes in Chicago, they’ve answered my deepest, darkest, foodie prayers. Once you enter their gorgeous store that’s more boutique than bakery, you’ll behold flavors like pungent pear, port and blue cheese, as well as B.L.T. with heirloom tomatoes and candied bacon. Their bacon, maple and brown sugar variety is a morning must have, while a peach barbeque cupcake blends sweet and savory -- on the seventh day, I hope these creators rested. Occasionally, when all the stars align, they serve a cake so decadent, it’d make Marie Antonette’s wig spin. A $75 white truffle cupcake. (I know it’s spendy, but so is a mani/pedi, just wear boots and gloves for a month, it’s worth it.) This savory creation is built on a base of white truffle-infused cake, topped with bacon frosting (of course) and crowned with a trough-full of shaved fresh white truffles. I’m feeling light-headed…oh, I guess I forgot to breathe while I was writing that last sentence.
It’s been proven that Columbus didn’t really discover America, and maybe I’m the not first to make it to the shores of More cupcakes, but I’m going to take all the credit. Once you taste one of their cupcakes (they ship all across the US) you’ll want to name a holiday after me.
That’s why I’m grateful for More cupcakes.
