I have a confession. In high school, I was best friends with a girl I didn’t like all that much. I’m embarrassed to admit why, because it’s despicable, but I know you won’t judge me, so here goes… I stayed friends with her because she shared all of her clothes with me. (Okay, you promised you wouldn’t judge, so knock it off.) I’m much less despicable now, and I know a real honest to goodness friendship isn’t based on willingness to share clothes. It’s based on willingness to share cocktail recipes. Meet my new buddy Morrigan Aria. She emailed me her recipe for a dirty hurricane, and now, because I’m such a good friend, I’m sharing it with you…word for word.
*Morrigan’s Dirty Girl Dirty Hurricane:
1 large glass (I suggest a pint glass!)
1 oz orange juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz grenadine
2-3 oz Meyer's Dark Rum. Don't bother with the various shades of Bacardi here. Meyer's Dark. Or half Meyer's Dark and half Over-proof Rum. What's over-proof rum, you ask? That's another story.
Stir. Add ice. Enjoy copiously. Once you get a bartender trained how to make this one, keep them around. You may, of course, add more rum depending on taste (or tolerance).
These make a vaguely nasty-looking pink and brownish mess, but delightful to taste. I avoid the Hurricanes with Passionfruit or Guava or whatever else juice. This one is easy and every bar has all the ingredients on hand, all the time. Plus, when traveling, your bartender will thank you for knowing how you want your drink mixed, it makes their life easy too. If you have ever looked in the bartender guide, there are about 5 or 6 (easily) recipes for Hurricanes...what a pain for your drink mixer du jour. Enjoy, drink up, and party Mardi Gras style, beads not included.
After reading this I’m sure you’d like to be best friends with Morrigan -- well, take a number. I’m grateful for Morrigan Aria because this girl knows the recipe for a friendship starts with a pint glass.
*I’m going to post this recipe in the Member’s Lounge section of the site, and hopefully, if she’s feeling friendly, Morrigan will share a few more of her favorite recipes with us from time to time.
That’s why I’m grateful for Morrigan Aria.
