I love me some southern boys. There’s something so sexy about the ‘yes ma’ams, no ma’ams and kisses that taste like bourbon and hush puppies. Too bad most of these boys are taken by southern women. I can’t compete with the likes of those beauties, they don’t breed cattle in the south, they breed cheerleaders, homecoming queens, Miss Americas and women who cook like chefs and hold their liquor like longshoreman.
Lucky for us yankie girls, I received an email from a southern bell who’s as generous as she is gorgeous. Jeanne Smith Burke sent me a cocktail recipe, bless her heart! This is exactly what she wrote
Hey shuuuga ~ I think you'll like this cocktail. I had a themed event: Shake a Tail Feather - all food items had something to do with feathers. My cocktail I served was called Buzzard Beak cocktail.
Buzzard Beak Cocktail
1/2 c Wild Turkey
1/2 c apple liquor
1 c pomegranate/cranberry juice
Pour into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a martini glass.
I've been serving this cocktail for three years and continues to be a hit. Presently, this cocktail is a big hit among the Kappas at Ol' Miss.
You see that? She called me shuuuuga, and I’m not embarrassed to say, I kinda liked it -- a lot. I’m grateful for southern women, because let me tell you, if I didn’t love ‘em, I be so jealous, I’d hate ‘em. Instead of obsessing over the fact that I’ll never be a southern gal, I’ll quote Scarlett O’Hara who summed it up beautifully when she said, “I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow. After all, tomorrow is another cocktail.”
That’s why I’m grateful for southern women.
