Today I'm grateful
for comeback stories.

Summer 2010 brings us something more horrifying than the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. Brace yourself, 1990’s fashion is making a comeback -- I may never be able to fall asleep again. I’m okay with ripped jeans, flannel shirts, Doc Martins and even Scrunchies, but the biggest nightmare inducing entity since Freddie (you may want to clamp your eyes shut for this one) is that overalls are back. AAAAAGGGGGGHHHH!

Designers like Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs are showing overalls on the runway. The Appalachian lounge suit has even managed to find it’s way onto the pages of none other than Vogue. I blame Jesse James for this. (In all fairness, I blame Jesse James for global warming, earthquakes, famine, oil spills and anything else that’s wrong with the world.) But I have good reason to blame him for this atrocity to mankind because he launched a clothing line this year featuring men’s overalls, complete with a convenient zipper fly – just in case you’re in a rush to nail a stripper with a tattooed forehead and don’t have time for buckles.

I’m not totally opposed to overalls, if you’re eight years old or under. But other than that, overalls are a trend I’m only going to revisit in my nightmares. I’m grateful for comeback stories because they really are survivor stories. I was a fashion victim in the 90’s and I lived to tell the tale -- thankfully none of my overalls did.

That’s why I’m grateful for comeback stories.

Forget about rainbows and unicorns, I’m grateful for double martinis, single men and pretty much anything covered in chocolate or cheese. This gratitude journal is anonymous because the stuff that tends to fall out of my head and land on the page makes HR departments cringe -- and guys lose my number.
