Just when I start to doubt that there’s any good news out there these days, I come across a headline that makes my little Grinch heart grow three sizes. “People who drink two or three glasses of wine in the evening are healthier than teetotalers, according to a major new study.” I don’t mean to be overly-congratulatory, but “IN YOUR FACE TEETOATLLERS! WHOOOHOOOOO! YOU CAN SUCK IT!” (outburst off).
Oh but wait…there’s more. Those who drink in moderation have lower rates of obesity, depression and people who enjoy alcohol without indulging to excess tend to be wealthier and more successful than both heavy drinkers and abstainers as concluded by a wide-ranging French study. Okay, so the study is from France which is kinda like a study from Krispy Kreme saying donuts are good for you (with which I totally agree) but researchers came to these findings after analyzing the medical records of 150,000 people. Sounds legit to me.
I’m grateful for good booze news because it confirms what I’ve always believed -- I don’t have to work hard, I can just drink my way to the top. Next time I’m out with a bunch of girlfriends and we order our second – or third bottle of wine, I know just what to say. “Let’s toast to our health, mental well-being and socio-economic status and total world domination.” But chances are, by that time I’ll be so tipsy, I just go with “cheers!”
That’s why I’m grateful for good booze news.
